Student Competitions

The Applied Geography Conference is pleased to announce a Student Paper and Poster Competition, spondored by ESRI. Student presentations in the form of either papers or posters emphasizing the application of empirically based research to human and environmental problem-solving will be the focus of the competition.

Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third places in both competitions. First prize for both the paper and poster competitions is a professional copy of ArcGIS and a book, "Geodatabases." Second and third prizes for both competitions are one-year, timed out copies of ArcGIS.

Student Papers:

1. the entry must be single authored (co-authored papers with the student's advisor or other faculty member will not be eligible);
2. the student must make a presentation in an appropriate session at the 32nd Annual Applied Geography Conference in Baton Rouge, LA, October 28-30, 2009 (May 18, 2009 is the deadline for submitting titles and abstracts -- go to the page on preparation of manuscripts for submission formats);
3. the student must preregister for the Conference (fee $50) and must complete and submit the AV request form.

 

Student Posters:

1. 
   

   The student must be present for the poster session (Wednesday, October 28, 2009) at the 32nd Annual Applied Geography Conference in Baton Rouge, LA, (September 18, 2009 is the deadline for submitting titles and abstracts);



2. 
   

   A poster outlining the research that will fit on a board that is approximately 4 x 3 feet in size must be brought to the meetings;



3. 
   

   Abstracts must adhere to style guidelines, found at the end of the  guidelines for manuscript preparation; they can be submitted as a Word or WordPerfect attachment to an e-mail (see page on  preparation of manuscripts for specific instructions).



4. 
   

   The student must preregister for the Conference, fee $50.

Papers and posters presented at the conference and entered in the competition should emphasize completed research and/or projects. Papers dealing with thesis or dissertation proposals are not appropriate for presentation at the Applied Geography Conference. All abstracts should be submitted to
